World Kindness Day November 13
On November 13th we celebrated World Kindness Day here at CertaPet. Prairie Conlon, LMHP seen in the video below, wore her cardigan in honor of the late Mister Rogers, a pioneer of mental health. World Kindness Day provides us an opportunity to start a positive new habit; try giving someone a compliment, or just saying hello to a stranger – it will make you both feel good.
“You’ve made this day special by just being you. There’s no person in the world like you, and I like you just the way you are.” – Mister Rogers
Mutual Rescue was created with the idea that while shelter animals are often rescued by loving owners, many of us have felt that our animal actually rescued us. Mutual Rescue creates heartwarming videos with shelter pets and the people that rescue them, highlighting the way these animals have changed – and saved – their human’s lives.
Recently, Prairie hosted Carol Novello, Founder of Mutual Rescue on her podcast, The Animal Effect. Carol shared some staggering stats with us:
Each year, 6.5 million animals go into a shelter, and of that number, 1.5 million are euthanized. Fortunately, they have seen those numbers trending down.
Doggy Day Out
Can’t adopt, but still want to make a difference in a shelter animal’s life? Mutual Rescue launched Doggy Day Out, a program available in Humane Society shelters all across the US.
Doggy Day Out allows people to “borrow” a dog for the day, or for just a walk around the block! Shelter dogs don’t get a lot of exercise, and they aren’t getting attention – this interaction improves their adoptability, and helps you, too (we know the feel-good hormones like oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin skyrocket when we interact with animals)! Win-win!
