First you need to select which type of consultation is best suited for you: PSD travel or ESA housing and PSD travel combined. You then need to purchase a consultation with a mental health professional.

After that you will fill out a more in-depth assessment and your assigned mental health professional will determine whether or not you would benefit from a PSD letter. If approved, they will personally write a licensed recommendation letter for a PSD.

What kind of Licensed Mental Health Professional will sign my letter?

Our LMHPs consist of Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors, and Licensed Mental Health Counselors.

All of our Licensed Mental Health Professionals are fully qualified and have passed board exams. The LMHP we select will be one that is legally qualified to write PSD Letters in your state.

Will I need additional forms besides the letter?

The DOT will require additional paperwork for your PSD. Please also note that your PSD must be specifically trained to alleviate a certain disability.
US service dog laws only require a letter from their healthcare professionals in a few situations: workplace accommodations, housing accommodations, air travel accommodations.
Other than those situations mentioned above, individuals cannot be questioned about their PSD and asked to show their letter.

 

Will I need additional accessories like vests and an ID card?

Vests, ID Cards, and tags are accessories that may make it easier to identify your PSD but are not necessary. Still, many of our customers find the accessories very helpful for letting others know you have a PSD

What qualifications does my PSD need?

According to ADA laws, to be a Psychiatric Service Dog:

1) their handler must have a disability. Under the ADA, a person with a disability is someone who has a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits at least one major life activity.

2) the dog must be specifically trained to alleviate such disability. Psychiatric service dogs are trained to do something to help with the person’s disability. In other words, the dog allows the handler to overcome or improve his/her ability to function. A PSD might for instance counterbalance a handler because he/she is dizzy because of medication, interrupt panic attacks or OCD behaviors, turn lights on, etc..

As dictated by Federal Law under the Federal ADA Act of the U.S. FAA & DOT

Airlines May Ask Two Questions:
1. Is the Psychiatric Service Dog required because of a disability?
2.What work or tasks has the dog been trained to perform?

Airlines May Not:
1. Require Special Identification or training documentation for the dog.
2. Ask about the person's disability or require medical documentation.
3. Ask the dog to perform work or tasks.
4. Refuse admittance, isolate, segregate, or treat this person less favorably than other patrons.

A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove the psychiatric service dog from the premises unless:
1. The dog is out of control and the dog's owner does not take effective action to control it.
2. The dog is not housebroken.
